
She is known as a much-beloved devotional singer and Grammy-nominated recording artist. Snatam got married to Sopurkh Singh in January 2006 and is living in the United States with her husband and daughter named Jap Preet Kaur. In 1997, Snatam started a career as a food technologist with Peace Cereals in Eugene, Oregon. After receiving her bachelor degree, she went to India to learn kirtan under her mother’s teacher, Bhai Hari Singh. After completing her high school education, Snatam went to Mills College in Oakland, California where she studied biochemistry. Togher with members of her club, she conducted a campus recycling program and environmental awareness programs. When she was in her senior year, she served as president of a social action club known as “Students for Justice”. While in high school, she has also been active in social and environmental causes. She has taught and shared Naad Yoga, Kundalini Yoga & Meditation and K. Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead was her coach. Snatam Kaur is an American Kirtan singer and peace activist raised in the Kundalini Yoga tradition. She gained an education at Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley where she used to play violin in the school orchestra and began songwriting. Since childhood, Snatam has been a spiritual girl who used to practised kirtan with her mother in Sikh temples and at Sikh religious ceremonies. At the age of six, Snatam visited India with her family, where her mother learned kirtan. When she was two years old, Snatam moved to California with her family. Snatam says that all that she is doing now is making her feel that she is the love and feeling that vibration of compassion. Through her amazing work, she strives to share the power to Sikh sacred mantras to the world. Moreover, her book Original Light is considered to be the best compassionate and supportive guide to creating a personal daily spiritual practice. Her work is focused on helping people in need of giving the daily experience of inner peace. Snatam has dedicated her life to providing people with the tools to create a peaceful and healthy lifestyle. She leads workshops, concerts, retreats and offers recorded CDs and online courses through which she helps people in learning Naad Yoga and Kundalini Yoga and meditation. Here the music is accessible to people of all walks of life.

According to her, this practice gives her essential experience of peace and healing. Snatam studied the essence of Naad Yoga which is a form of yoga focusing on sacred sound for over thirty years. Snatam is blessed with an amazing skill of transform traditional Sikh chants of India into a contemporary sound that not only appeals to the modern ears but awakens an ancient yearning in the soul.

She is also a peace activist performing kirtan, which is Indian devotional music around the world. She was raised in Sikh and kundalini yoga tradition.
